GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Alco Beldan NW100 is a rapid action movable wall system designed
for easy, efficient and reliable daily use. Interlocking, individual
panels, 100mm thick, carried on rollers running in a top track only,
push together with an expanding panel as the last element, to form
a complete, secure partition wall. Panels have independently operating
pressure seal carriers extending at top and bottom.
PANEL SIZES
Panels are custom made with widths from approx. 650mm up to a maximum
of 1260mm. Panel heights from 2.00m up to 10.00m approx.
STANDARD PANEL CONSTRUCTION
Each panel is constructed with a welded tubular steel inner frame,
clad both sides with 16mm high density boards, isolated from the
internal frame. The cavity is insulated using layers of sound absorbing
materials as specified to achieve the acoustic rating. Cladding
boards are retained by removable aluminium edge profiles which do
not form part of the panel frame.
INTER-PANEL CONNECTION
Sound leakage through the vertical connection between meeting panels
is minimised by aluminium interlocking wedgeshaped, tongue-and-grooved,
edge profiles with integral magnetic strips. Profiles may be either
exposed, to protect the panel edge, or concealed.
PANEL FINISHES
Panels can be finished to suit almost every taste and to match with
adjacent décor. Standard panels are finished in durable,
high-density melamine-faced particleboard, class E1. Other options
include: laminates, selected wood veneers, primer sheet for onsite
decoration with wall-coverings, and any combination of these using
dado rails and mouldings etc. Sections of pin-board and special
absorptive acoustic boards may be incorporated; and for ultimate
integration, inlaid veneered feature panels sourced and supplied
by the clients appointed joinery specialist.
OPERABLE ACOUSTIC SEALS
The acoustic seals are housed in deep, twopiece extruded aluminium
carrier assemblies that extend independently at the top and bottom
of each panel. The black finished carriers have insulated bridging
plates to minimise sound transmission. To ensure leak free sealing
and secure panel stability, the seal carriers operate under very
high (2kN) spring pressure controlled by a manually operated, rapid
action scissor link mechanism (with motor drive option). Our scissor
link device provides much longer seal travel for out-of-level floors
and facilitates easy setting up of the panels by anyone, using a
removable handle.
TRACK SYSTEM
Panels are carried on roller hangers running in a white finished
metal overhead track, usually concealed into the ceiling. The track
must be suspended from a suitable structure adequate to carry the
loadings imposed. Track intersections are precision made off-site
ensuring smooth transition through junctions into any one of a number
of remote panel stacking options
ROLLER SYSTEMS
Special roller units have been developed to match each track to
ensure easy movement of the panels through track intersections.
Depending upon the configuration, panels are essentially supported
using one or two roller units; each on a hanger assembly incorporating
our unique height setting device. Tall and heavy panels use a guide
roller unit running in special heavy-duty steel track fabricated
to facilitate turning of panels into stacking area
HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
Each roller is fitted with a unique, self-locking height-setting
device ensuring the panels remain level whilst allowing the height
to be adjusted and re-set at a later date without having to interfere
with the ceiling.
SOUND REDUCTION
The Alco Beldan NW100 movable wall system offers the best levels
of acoustic performance from panels just 100mm thick. Internal layers
of dense insulation materials are combined to increase the acoustic
performance, not the overall panel thickness. Independent laboratory
test results with flanking transmission were reevaluated
in accordance with DIN 4109-3 to give equivalent ratings of Rw 52dB
up to Rw 58dB. Panels have since been retested in accordance with
the latest European standard procedure ISO / EN 20 140-3: (1995).
Test report certificates available upon request.
QUALITY ASSURANCE & DURABILITY
Essential requirements of any high quality movable wall system are
its build quality and its ability to withstand constant use without
adversely affecting performance. Our German factory has attained
ISO 9001 accreditation for quality and panels pass the DIN 310.000/3.79
standard test enduring 3,500 operations.
IMPACT RESISTANCE
Tested in accordance with DIN 18032-3
THERMAL TRANSMISSION
Up to 0.6 / m² , depending upon insulating materials within the
panel.

Examples of how single or double pass doors can be incorporated
into movable walls
|
|
PASS DOOR
PANEL
A pass door panel needs very careful design detailing to minimise
sound leakage. The panel construction is as our standard panel
but has a bevel gear mechanism to operate full width seals at
top and highpressure seals at bottom of both door stiles. The
double rebated door leaf is 100mm thick and is set within the
panel having stiles at both sides. An automatic adjustable pressure
seal extends from the bottom of the door leaf during last fraction
of closing movement. Heavy-duty hinges with adjustable sleeves
are fitted, as are recessed lever handles. |

Our careful detailing makes these pass door panels probably
the best in the industry |

TELESCOPIC
PANEL
Most movable wall systems incorporate a telescopic panel to
provide a working clearance for operator handling of the panels
and achieve a high-pressure, leak free seal at the jamb post.
Panel construction is as our standard panel but uses a bevel
gear mechanism to actuate an adjustable, internal extending
section and the top and bottom seals, sequentially in one winding
operation. The extending section is finished to match the panel
surface, travels 100 mm carrying top and bottom seal extensions
to fully close into the corners. Operation is from one side
only. |
| The extruded aluminium profiles
do not form part of the panel frame. Deep, tongued-and-grooved,
interlocking profiles with integral magnetic strips ensure the
panels hang plumb and joints close tightly together. Aluminium
profiles may be colour anodised or spray paint finished if required. |

ACOUSTIC BARRIERS
The illustration shows the importance of controlling the sound
transmission above the movable wall panels.
Where required Alco Beldan can install acoustic barriers
both above the ceiling and beneath a raised access floor. The
acoustic baffle is constructed using layers of high density
gypsum boards on a framework infilled with acoustic quilt
to match the performance of the movable wall.

| ELECTRIC
OPERATION - Designed to Make Life Easier |
Experience has shown that movable walls are not foolproof because
the system relies on the operator manually extending the pressure
seals at top and bottom of each panel.
Whilst our rapid action mechanism only needs 4 or
5 turns to extend the seals, when pressed for time setting out a
long movable wall, an operator may forget to extend the seals on
every panel. The result could be complaints about the level of noise
through the movable wall.
Electrical operation of the seals not only assures
the seals will be extended fully but also achieves this without
time consuming handle winding, thereby shortening the setting up
process.
With Electric Operation the panels are pushed into
place as normal but as soon as the magnetic profiles engage together
the seals automatically extend applying the correct pressure to
give optimum sound insulation and stability.
